Priscilla opened Live Oak Recording Studio in 1984 and since that time her studio has recorded some very famous and also some very talented local musicians. Lately they have been focused on recording Audio Books and Podcasts. The below photo was taken in Live Oak studio during a session where she is hosting Dr.Ivan Misner’s weekly Podcast show “The Official BNI Podcast”. He has been called,” the Father Of Modern Networking.”
The Bass that Priscilla is holding in this picture is made by a French Luthier named Christophe Leduc. It is called a U-Bass. Priscilla has been studying and playing bass for most of her adult life. Primarily she's focused on playing Jazz, as well as Salsa and Brazilian music. Priscilla also encourages everyone to take up an instrument if you have the desire...it is never too late - as she didn’t start playing until the age of 26.
Living Jazz is a nonprofit organization that Priscilla has been deeply involved with and currently sits on the Board of Trustees. The guiding principle is “Transforming lives through Music”. One of the most impressive projects of the organization is The Living Jazz Children’s Project which is a full year of music education and performance program that Living Jazz provides completely free of charge for Title One Oakland public elementary schools with little or no access to the arts.
The two large Macaw parrots were both rescues who lived with us for over 5 years. Yes...they are very loud! I finally found them a home in the country with a ranch owner near Monterey. They now have horses, dogs, cats and other birds to keep them company. The beautiful Yellow Headed Amazon is Barbara. She is also an adopted bird who has come to live with me just in the past few years. She was born in 1981 and in this picture (below, top photo) she has reached the age of 39! This isn’t even close to the age that she could reach, which is as old as 75 years! She is a lovely parrot...very affectionate and I am very lucky to have her.
In the early 70’s, in the midst of a Feminist Movement that was just getting started, Priscilla and her women friends started building houses and working as Carpenters. This photo is of an Octagonal Goat Barn that we spent almost a year building in Albion, CA , near the town of Mendocino. After that experience, Priscilla joined the Carpenter’s Union as an apprentice carpenter working throughout the East Bay. Around 1976, they received their Contractor’s licenses and formed their own Construction company called Seven Sisters Construction which was organized as a collective. Seven Sisters Construction continued working together until 1984, building houses and remodeling. Priscilla really misses the camaraderie and fun they had building together.
